How does the regulation of cryptoassets work in Slovakia, what changes has the MiCA regulation brought, and what opportunities does the Slovak market offer? These questions are addressed in the Slovak chapter of the international professional publication Digital Assets Laws & Regulations<\/a><\/em>, authored by our experts at Highgate Group.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

In an international academic publication Digital Assets Laws & Regulations: Comparative Analysis and Jurisdictional Insights<\/a><\/em>, published on October 16, 2026, by the LexHost platform, a chapter was published dedicated to the legal and regulatory framework for digital assets in Slovakia. Our colleagues Peter Varga, Roman Baranec, and Vladim\u00edr Gadu\u0161<\/strong> from Highgate Group, who have long specialized in financial regulation, capital markets, cryptoassets, and AML compliance, are listed as the authors in the publication.<\/p>\n\n

From MiCA Regulation to the Taxation of Cryptoassets<\/h2>\n\n

The Slovakia chapter provides a comprehensive overview of key legal, regulatory, and tax issues related to doing business with cryptoassets in Slovakia. It focuses primarily on the licensing of crypto-asset service providers (CASP) under the MiCA Regulation and the corresponding requirements of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS), AML obligations in the area of cryptoasset regulation, the taxation of cryptoassets, and the possibilities for establishing investment funds that invest in cryptoassets.<\/p>\n\n

Attention is also given to the tokenization of financial instruments, decentralized finance (DeFi), and the cross-border provision of services within the European Union.<\/p>\n\n

Practical experience with licensing proceedings before the NBS<\/h2>\n\n

This publication reflects not only the legislative framework but also our practical experience with licensing proceedings. At Highgate Group, we represented three of the six companies that obtained a CASP license from the NBS in Slovakia by the end of summer 2026.<\/strong> We also provide our clients with comprehensive legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory advice on establishing a business in the crypto-asset sector.<\/p>\n\n
