We have just finished the Real Estate – Taxes and Financing Conference(https://bit.ly/46MGgoZ). I am naturally pleased that the conference was a success. However, the conference was just a natural culmination (“tip of the iceberg” 🏔 ) of what we have been trying to systematically build in our consultancy since 2018. ✅ In 2018, when we launched Highgate Law & Tax, our primary focus was on tax, M&A and corporate law. As Peter Varga and I had experience with collective investment and capital market law (first Slovak (unsuccessful) IPO, corporate bond issues, securitisation), it made sense for both of us to further systematically build this branch of our advisory business. ✅ In March 2021, we brought Roman Baranec into the team, who has been instrumental in significantly strengthening the practice and content side of our capital markets and collective investment advisory business. ✅ In the spring of 2021, we succeeded in launching the first EuVECA fund in the V4 countries. It took more than half a year and was a big test for us and the National Bank of Slovakia(https://bit.ly/3NcLSlu). ✅ In June 2021 we organised a big conference on legal
and tax issues in setting up smaller investment funds in Slovakia and abroad(https://lnkd.in/dyy6JRPV). ✅ In those almost 6 years we have published extensively on the topic of collective investment and funds 📖 (e.g. https://bit. ly/3T5FgZW, https://lnkd.in/dQsvFt5Z), participated in professional forums and conferences (e.g. https://bit. ly/3R2P7gq, https://bit.ly/3R9U8DX). ✅ We have also repeatedly contributed to the improvement of the Slovak legal environment in the field of capital markets and collective investment as members of various expert working groups and initiatives. For example, we have stood for (i) allowing the creation of more types of shares in SICAVs (without the possibility of issuing which the SICAV was losing the possibility of practical use) or (ii) the flexibilisation of small investment funds (which can now be established for as little as EUR 5,000) in order to allow not only professional investors to invest in them). ✅ Until 2024, I dare to say (with a reasonable amount of humility) that we are entering as advisors with the strongest practical experience with collective investment law and the establishment of (small) investment funds on the Slovak market.
