Why do the rich diversify outside Slovakia (and you don’t?)

Slovak entrepreneurs often have all their assets located in Slovakia – their company, real estate and money.

But is it really safe?

In this episode of Highgate Talks, we talk about a topic that more and more business owners are addressing in the current socio-economic climate. Why consider opening an account with a foreign bank and what is the real importance of diversifying your assets.

Our guest is Ivan Melay, a member of the investment committee of Salmann Investment Management in Liechtenstein, who has many years of experience in asset management in foreign jurisdictions.

Together with moderator Tomas Demo (Highgate Group Partner) they discuss:

🔹 why holding all assets in one country is risky;
🔹 historical scenarios (Cyprus, Greece) and what they imply;
🔹 how the state can reach into savings in a crisis;
🔹 practical advantages of offshore accounts (protection, diversification, flexibility);
🔹 the difference between Slovak and foreign private banking;
🔹 how much it costs to manage assets abroad;
🔹 how the account opening and KYC process works;
🔹 why a foreign account is NOT a tool for hiding assets.
