The Estonian Tax, the “Švarc” System, and the Future of Taxation in Slovakia? A Discussion with Marián Viskupič (SaS)

Domov > The Estonian Tax, the “Švarc” System, and the Future of Taxation in Slovakia? A Discussion with Marián Viskupič (SaS)

In the Slovak tax world, SaS has sparked a discussion about the so-called “Estonian tax”—a model under which companies do not pay income tax at the time profits are generated, but only when those profits are distributed outside the business. Profits retained within the company, reinvested in further growth, or used to cover past losses would thus not be subject to ongoing taxation. The SaS proposals also include a return to a flat tax and the abolition of the transaction tax.

  • What would such a change mean for the Slovak business environment?
  • What is SaS’s stance on the taxation of labor, contractors, and the “Švarc” system?
  • And where is the line between a political proposal, the state’s capacity, and the practical needs of business owners?

We invite you to the next Highgate Business Brunch, where Peter Varga will discuss the Estonian tax, the flat tax, the transaction tax, and the broader framework of the tax and social security system in Slovakia with Marián Viskupič from the SaS political party. There will also be time for questions from the audience and an open discussion with entrepreneurs, managers, and experts.

The interview will be followed by a presentation by Peter Varga on the topic: “When Can a Seller at Eurovea Be a Contractor?” In addition to an interesting legal perspective applicable to a wide range of professions that utilize contractors, he will also offer up-to-date practical insights on the “Švarc system.”

The event will conclude with a discussion between Peter Varga and Peter Šebo from the transakcio.sk platform. The topic will be a practical solution that can help entrepreneurs legally eliminate or significantly reduce the impact of the transaction tax. Peter Šebo will explain how the project works from a business perspective, and Peter Varga will provide the legal rationale for the conditions under which such an approach can be justified.
