Tomáš Demo for STVR: Many family businesses do not survive the first generational transition

Tomáš Demo, an attorney and partner at Highgate Group, gave an interview to STVR in which he discussed family businesses in Slovakia and the challenges they face when passing the business on from one generation to the next. In the interview, he explains why it is important to establish rules for succession, asset protection, and business management in a timely manner; what risks family conflicts pose; and why many family businesses do not survive beyond the first generation of their founders. At the same time, he highlights the shortcomings of Slovak legislation and the options entrepreneurs use to protect family assets abroad.
